Strategic Action Committees

Acts In Common (AIC) is an organization that exists to resource and renew Lutheran congregations in African American neighborhoods in the Detroit metropolitan region.   Much of the actual resourcing of those congregations will be done by Strategic Action Committees (SACs), which will staff the AIC Board of Directors for the fulfillment of the six strategic objectives for which the Board is responsible.

The twelve members of the Acts In Common Board of Directors will be paired, with each pair being responsible for the oversight of one of the six strategic objectives of the organization:

•  Strengthening Existing Ministries

•  Congregational Leadership Development

•  Contextual Ministry

•  Financial Development

•  Maximizing Resources

•  New Ministry Development

As the Board begins to prayerfully scope out its responsibilities and commence its work, the Strategic Action Committees (SACs) will start to be formed from members of our congregations and communities.   Committee members will have experience and expertise in the specific areas within our ministries that need support and development.   SACs will be activated in response to AIC congregations' stated needs, which will be made known to the Board through the Parish Professionals (the pastors of AIC congregations) roundtable. Fundraising, partnership building, technology, communication and youth ministry are some examples of such congregational needs. The Strategic Action Committees (SACs) will be formed in partnership with AIC Board members, congregations, AIC and Synod staff, other community organizations and contacts, etc.

The Strategic Action Committees (SACs) will work directly with individual congregations or groups of congregations to provide resources, support, development, education/training, etc. in the specific and contextual ways that have been requested.   The SACs will receive their work assignments and work priorities from the Board, and are accountable to both the Board and the congregations for their work products.   The SACs themselves, based on the priorities and timelines communicated by the Board, will determine work process.

Strategic Action Committees (SACs) will maintain a cumulative history of projects and work products, such that an inventory can be kept of congregational requests and resultant solutions.   This inventory will create a body of resources to share outside the scope of Acts In Common and the metro-Detroit area.
